Get some Cense Dikwa

I really enjoyed tonight's discussion. I found the definition of the evolution of data to information to knowledge to wisdom to art very profound. In my opinion good marketing and making money are arts. I enjoy seeing people who take their knowledge and wisdom to make things that are artistic or make money. A very good example I saw the other day was from local pop-punk band, Same As Sunday.

They found a current event or something dear to Indianapolis and created a product for them, but also piggy-backs off of the Colts. I have seen several bands in Indianapolis do things similar to this and I think it is brilliant. Besides attracting fans of your band, you attract fans of the Colts.

Many of the thoughts I have had over the semester have been based off one belief: if you are there first, you can make money. This thought was brought out again tonight when we discussed how the medium takes precedence over the story. With the introduction of the iPad there are many opportunities for people to do things for the first time. Create the first iPad size newspaper app for the iPad, create a newspaper or magazine that incorporates video in place of normal photographs, or choose your own adventure stories. The simple fact is if you are ready to be one of the first people to release a quality app like this for the iPad, you will make money. Many of the users will download apps if it is something new or exciting. Users will pay for the experience of having a newspaper service with video if it is unique or different. It goes back to the simple rules of supply and demand. If 10,000 iPads are sold the first week, there will be 10,000 costumers looking for an application for their new toy. This may seem like a silly idea or far fetched, but if a fart application can make $30,000 dollars in one day, anything is possible. Inner Discussion

Wow, I really need to blog right after class. I can remember last week feeling very energetic and full of inspiration. Now I feel weighed down with class, work, family, etc. This class seems to be a much needed break for me in my schedule. I don't mean break as it is easy, I mean break as in it gives me time to ponder things. I find that in my everyday schedule I don't have much time to think of what will and can be. I find it is very important to have time to think to yourself. Too many times we find ourselves zombies to media, walking through life consuming more than we create. Currently, I find myself creating quite a bit of media from work to school, yet I still feel like a zombie. Luckily I have been making time to walk away from the computer and stretch and exercise.

I look forward to today's class to further explore media and ourselves. Today I will blog directly after class and see how my posts compare.
